
BlueClaws Fall to Suns at Home

Lakewood, N.J. â The Lakewood BlueClaws (13-26) and the Hagerstown Suns (26-13), Single-A affiliate of the New York Mets, opened up a four game series at FirstEnergy Park on Tuesday Night. The Suns took a 4-0 lead on their way to a 5-3 win over the BlueClaws.
The Suns took an early 1-0 lead in the first on Ambiorix Concepcion's RBI double scoring Dante Brinkley from second. Brinkley reached base with a one out single then swiped second base.
Lakewood starter Maximo De La Cruz (L, 1-5) settled down for the rest of the game before running into trouble in the seventh inning. De La Cruz retired the first batter of the inning then Ryan Coultas stepped in and connected for a double. De La Cruz got the next batter to ground out but loaded the bases when he hit Brinkley and walked Grant Psomas.
De La Cruz was lifted for reliever Jason Martinez who was greeted with a three-run double off the bat of Mike Carp and the Suns increased their lead to 4-0.
Lakewood got a run back in the bottom half of the seventh inning on John Hardy's RBI base hit to cut the lead to 4-1. Hagerstown scored again to push the lead back to four in the top of the eighth inning on an RBI base hit from Carlos Gomez.
Lakewood cut the lead to two in the bottom half of the inning making it 5-3. With the bases loaded and one out Carl Galloway connected for a two-run base hit to left field scoring Jason Jaramillo and Sam Orr.
The BlueClaws had bases loaded with one out two other times in the game but grounded into inning ending double plays.
Jose Sanchez (W, 7-0) allowed no runs on just three hits over the course of six innings while walking two and striking out two. Carlos Muniz (S, 9) closed out the final 1 2/3 innings allowing just one walk while striking out two.
The BlueClaws and Suns continue their series Wednesday. Andy Baldwin (0-3, 5.6) will go the mound for the BlueClaws as he looks for his first win of the year. The Suns will send right-hander Matt Durkin (2-1, 3.95) to the mound. It's another Eduction day at the park with first pitch at 11:05 a.m. and on-air time at 10:50 a.m. on 1310 WADB and www.blueclaws.com.
This season, the Lakewood BlueClaws are celebrating their fifth anniversary of providing great fun in the Jersey sun. Among the great promotions this year, kids twelve and under eat free every Monday night home game courtesy of ShopRite. In addition, the BlueClaws will host games against affiliates of the New York Yankees and New York Mets.
