Blown Save Costs Catfish Win in 11-Inning, 2-1 Loss to Charleston

CHARLESTON, SC—Leading 1-0 entering the bottom of the ninth inning, the Catfish blew their 10th save of the season, going on to lose 2-1 tonight in 11 innings to the Charleston RiverDogs at Riley Park in Charleston. Charleston DH Justin Christian reached on a walk in the 11th, and stole second base. With 3B Grant Plumley at the plate, Christian took off to third on the pitch, and when Plumley put a slow roller in play to the right side, Christian never stopped running and scored the winning run from second. SS Lucas May homered for the Catfish in the loss, driving home his 11th run in the past five games. The Catfish loss is their sixth in an extra-inning game this season, as they fall to 13-26 overall and the Charleston RiverDogs improve to 24-15.

LHP Scott Elbert pitched his best game of the season for the Fish tonight, allowing no runs on three hits and striking out seven batters. Four of the seven strikeouts came in the final two innings of Elbert's evening. He left the game in the 7th with a 1-0 lead courtesy of May's team leading 6th HR of the year in the fourth inning. The Catfish held a 1-0 lead into the 9th inning after two scoreless innings of relief work from RHP Brian Akin. Akin gave up a leadoff single in the 9th inning and after a sac bunt, came out of the game in favor of RHP Kyle Wilson. Wilson gave up a game-tying single to Charleston LF Estee Harris but got out of a jam later in the ninth with the winning run at third and two outs.

Wilson gave up the leadoff walk to Christian in the 12th and the RBI groudout to Plumley, falling to 0-2 in his two appearances. The Catfish are now 4-16 on the road this season, having lost 11 of those games by one run. Tomorrow the Catfish take on the RiverDogs at 7:05 for Game 2 of the four-game set, with RHP Javy Guerra (2-2, 6.07 ERA) on the mound for his eighth start.
