Legends Fall in Season Opener

Frisco, TX - The Texas Legends lost in a thrilling season opener against the Austin Toros 101-96. Returning swingman Dominique Johnson poured in 28 points for the Legends, but he was out matched by counterpart and former Legend Justin Dentmon who supplied 29 points and 7 assists in his first appearance since being traded to the Toros.

The Legends dominated the glass, winning the rebounding battle 49-39, the fifth overall pick Jamal Sampson was a force pulling down 20 rebounds alone, 9 offensive. Sampson also provided 14 points for the Legends.

Texas held a two point lead at the half, up 53-51, but down the stretch the Toros excelled, outscoring the Legends in the fourth quarter 33-25.

Vance Cooksey for the Legends was excellent in his first NBDL start with 16 points, 10 assists, 6 rebounds and a pair of steals. Texas was also more dominant in turnovers as they forced 18 and committed only 10. Defensively the Legends main downfall was allowing too many from the outside to go in, as the Toros made 9 from three-point range on 39.1% shooting.

The Legends had five players in double-figures while the Toros had three players score 24 points or more.

The Austin Toros improve to 1-0 on the season and next face Tulsa on December 2nd.

Texas (0-1) plays the Tulsa 66ers on Wednesday at Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco, tip-off is at 7:00PM Central Time.
