
Jam Take Season Opener Over Bighorns

BAKERSFIELD - The Bakersfield Jam (1-0) opened the 2011-12 NBA Development League season with a commanding 122-97 win over the Reno Bighorns (0-1). Bakersfield led by as many as 33 points on the night.
The Bighorns came out strong to start the game, leading by 14 points in the first quarter, while shooting 62.5% from the field compared to the Jam's 39.3%. Bakersfield turned it around in the second period, behind Mustapha Farrakhan's 10 point quarter performance, and took their first lead of the game on a Renaldo Major free throw at the 5:58 mark. The Jam did not trail for the rest of the evening. Major added 13 points in the third quarter and Brian Butch scored 12 in the fourth to put the game away for good.
Butch finished the game with a double-double of 28 points and 14 rebounds, while Osiris Eldridge added 22 points. Major had an excellent overall effort, putting up 20 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocked shots on the night. Farrakhan almost reached a double-double as well, finishing with 17 points and 9 assists. Juan Pattillo contributed 13 points and 7 rebounds (5 offensive) off the bench.
Reno was led by Guard Blake Ahearn with 26 points, 12 of which came in the first quarter. Center Nick Fazekas had 21 points and 9 rebounds and Zach Graham scored 12 points.
The Jam will face the Reno Bighorns again tomorrow evening at the Jam Events Center at 7 pm PT.
