Jay Austin's fifth-inning home run made the difference as the Lexington Legends held on to beat the Augusta GreenJackets 2-1 in Augusta Wednesday night.

The game was tied 1-1 when Austin led off the fifth with his first home run of the year, and his first as a professional. Austin played with Greeneville in the Appalachian League in 2008, his first year in professional baseball.

Lexington starter Kyle Greenwalt worked the first five and one-third innings to get the win, his sixth of the year against seven losses. Brian Wabick and Patrick Urckfitz provided scoreless relief pitching, with Urckfitz working the final inning and two-thirds to earn his ninth save in 10 opportunities.

The GreenJackets broke on top in the first inning. Charlie Culberson singled, stole second and came home on a two-out single by Andy D'Alessio.

The Legends tied it in the fourth. Albert Cartwright reached second on Culberson's throwing error, and scored with two out on a single by Ronnie Ramirez. Austin's home run in the fifth closed out the scoring.

Kyle Nicholson (4-7) was the losing pitcher, despite striking out nine in eight innings.

The two teams will play again Thursday night at 7:05 p.m.
