(HICKORY, N.C.) Chris Epps' two-run double triggered a four-run fourth inning as the Lexington Legends went on to a 6-4 win over the Hickory Crawdads Sunday. The Legends survived a 15-hit attack by the Crawdads.
After Epps' double tied the game at 2-2, Jesse Wierzbicki singled, sending Epps to third. Roberto Pena's sacrifice fly scored Epps with the go-ahead run, and Chan Jong Moon's double scored Wierzbicki to give the Legends a 4-2 lead. The double by Epps extended his hitting streak to 11 games.
It was 5-3 in the seventh when Lexington's Zach Johnson hit a solo homer in the seventh. The RBI was Johnson's league-leading 52nd of the season. The Crawdads scored a run in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Hanser Alberto, who had three hits in the game, but the Crawdads could get no closer as the Legends earned a split of the four-game series.
Legends starter Nick Tropeano (3-3) got the win. Hickory starter Santo Perez (2-4) took the loss. Jason Chowning earned his ninth save, second in the South Atlantic League.
The Legends return home to open a seven-game homestand Monday night against Augusta. Game time at Whitaker Bank Ballpark is 7:05 p.m.
