LAKEWOOD, NJ - Steven Souza broke a 3-3 tie with a three-run double in the 6th inning and Hagerstown went on to beat the BlueClaws 7-6 on Sunday night at FirstEnergy Park.
With the win, Hagerstown (29-20) took five of the six games in the series from the BlueClaws (19-29), who will now embark on a seven-game road trip to West Virginia and Kannapolis.
The teams exchanged first inning runs with the Suns taking the lead with two runs in the second inning. Home runs by Brian Pointer (7) in the third and Kelly Dugan (4) in the fourth inning tied the game before Souza's triple off of Lakewood starter Ramon Oviedo (1-1). Oviedo, making his second start, gave up seven runs in five innings.
The BlueClaws had the bases loaded with one out down 7-5 in the 8th inning but Carlos Perdomo hit into a double-play with Brian Pointer being tagged out at second base for the final out after Maikel Franco scored Lakewood's sixth run.
Hagerstown's Brian Dupra (3-4), activated earlier in the day, gave up five runs in five innings but earned the win.
Christian Meza gave up an unearned run in the 8th inning and struck out five over three innings for the Suns while Aaron Barrett threw a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his fourth save.
