Greenville Drive News Release

Greenville, SC - A team that makes eight errors in a baseball game faces long odds of winning, but the visiting Lexington Legends (3-2) defeated those odds to take down the Greenville Drive (2-3) 8-6 on Monday night at Fluor Field.

A six-run fourth inning was key in the Legends victory. Trailing 2-0 entering the frame, they quickly tied the game when Ryan O'Hearn cracked a two-run homer off the batter's eye in center field against Michael Kopech (0-1). Aaron Wilkerson entered the game shortly thereafter and struggled to throw strikes, and Alfredo Escalera lined a two-run single later in the frame to cap the big frame.

Ashton Goudeau (1-0) got the win after not allowing an earned run in two innings of relief, and Kevin McCarthy earned his first save with two scoreless innings.

Despite taking the loss, Kopech showed impressive stuff in his first full-season start, using high velocity with a good breaking ball to strike out four Lexington hitters in three and two-third innings.

The Drive took a 2-0 lead against Legends starter Zach Lovvorn early on, as Derek Miller singled and reached second on an error. He advanced to third on Mauricio Dubon's single and scored on another Lexington error.

They added another run in the third when Nick Longhi drove a Lovvorn offering over the wall in left-center for his first homer of the season.

Miller led the way for the Drive with three hits in five trips to the plate, and Dubon and Rafael Devers added two hits apiece. O'Hearn had three hits and two RBI for Lexington.

The series continues at 7:05 on Tuesday night at Fluor Field. RH Ty Buttrey (0-0, 2.25 ERA) starts for the Drive, while the Legends will send RH Pedro Fernandez (0-0, 0.00 ERA) to the mound.
