Rain Shortens Second Straight Game

(Rome, GA) - For the second straight game inclement weather impacted the game. The Gnats were on the wrong side of an 8th-inning conclusion and fall to the Braves 2-0.

The Braves, who were on the losing side of a 5th-inning stoppage yesterday, started fast on Tuesday. With runners on the corners, Codey McElroy cleared the bases with a double for the night's only runs.

Sand Gnats starter Scarlyn Reyes (0-1, 4.50) took the loss after allowing just two runs in the game's opening frame. Reyes tossed 4.0 IP allowing just five hits, two runs (both earned), and striking out two.

Rome starter RHP Max Povse (1-1, 0.90) threw five scoreless innings allowing just two hits, walking one, and striking out two. Reliever Zach Quintana added 2.2 IP scoreless innings of his own and earned the save.

LHP Alberto Baldonado (0-0, 0.00) continued his scoreless 2015 for the Sand Gnats. Baldonado came into the game in the fifth and totaled four strikeouts in just 2.1 IP. The native of Panama now leads the Sand Gnats with seven strikeouts this season.

The Gnats face the Rome Braves tomorrow for the rubber match at 7 PM. The Sand Gnats will send RHP Corey Oswalt (0-0, 3.18) to the mound on Wednesday, while RHP Brandon Barker (0-1, 9.82) will get the start for the Braves. The Sand Gnats will return home on Thursday, April 11 for Opening Day at Historic Grayson Stadium.
