Lexington Legends News Release
APPLEBEE'S PARK (Lexington, KY) - For the second straight night, a Greenville Drive starter quieted the Lexington Legends bats, as top prospect Nick Hagadone, drafted in the first round of the 2007 draft, dominated the Legends from start to finish in his second start of the 2008 season.
Hagadone pitched five innings, striking out seven Legends batters and only allowing two hits. Hagadone has still not allowed an earned run this year.
The Drive struck first in the top half of the first inning off of Legends starter Carlos Ladeuth. Che-Hsuan Lin, after leading off the game with a single, scored on an RBI single by Josh Reddick. Reddick would finish the evening with three hits and a stolen base.
The Drive would add another run in the fourth after a solo shot by Mike Jones and add another in the fifth on a solo shot by Tyler Weeden, who broke out of series slump with his first home run of the season.
The Drive would add two more runs in the 6th inning off a double by Anthony Rizzo to score Reddick from second and Jones from first, after they started off the rally with a single and walk respectively.
The score stood at 5-0 when the Legends would finally bring a runner across in the bottom of the sixth. Matt Cusick, who tallied three hits on the day, would lead off the inning with a double and score on a ground ball by Brandon Barnes. Craig Corrado, who followed up a double by Cusick with a hit of his own, would score on a wild pitch by Ryan Colvin, who replaced reliever Jordan Craft with the count 1-1 and the bases loaded.
The two runs would be the only runs that the Legends would put across in the game. Lexington did have the winning run at home plate with the bases loaded and 2 outs in the sixth, but Ronny Ramirez would strike out swinging to end the threat.
The Drive's bullpen would settle in after the sixth, not allowing a base runner to reach second base the next three innings and limiting the Legends to just one hit.
Ryan Colvin got his first save of the season, going 3.1 innings of work out of the bullpen. Ladeuth (0-2) got the loss for the Legends, who fell to 2-6 on the year and 1-3 on the homestand.
The Legends host visiting Augusta Greenjackets tomorrow night in another 7:05 start from Applebee's Park. Sergio Severino (1-0) goes up against Waldis Joaquin of the GreenJackets.
It's the first of three promotions by Hasbro, where the first 250 kids that enter the ballpark receive a free Transformers figurine. Hasbro is hosting BotCon at nearby Cincinnati in two weeks.
