
Captains Win, Go Back into First Place

(Eastlake, OH) - It was a night of fine pitching for the Captains on Thursday as they shut out the Delmarva Shorebirds 5-0 at Classic Park. Ryan Morris picked up his first win and Matt Brown added his first home run as the Captains took two of three against the Shorebirds. With the win the Captains moved back into first place as Greensboro lost their game.
The Captains opened the scoring in the third. Adam White led off the inning with a single and stole second base. Lucas Montero doubled White home. After a ground out moved Montero to third, he scored on another ground out, this time by Karexon Sanchez. The Captains added another run in the 7th inning when Matt Brown hit his first home run of the year. The Captains would add two insurance runs in the eighth on sacrifice flies by Mark Thompson and Sanchez.
Captains starter Ryan Morris had an outstanding outing going 5.1 scoreless innings giving up just the one hit, walking one and striking out a season high four batters. Mike Pontius inherited two runners from Morris in the sixth inning with one out and escaped without anyone scoring. Pontius would pitch 2.2 scoreless innings striking out three. Dallas Cawiezell pitched a scoreless ninth and that secured the Captains second shut out of the season.
The Captains travel to Hagerstown on Friday to take on the Suns, the Class A affiliate of the Washington Nationals. Game time is 6:35 PM and the game can be heard on AM 1330 WELW, WELW.COM or CAPTAINSBASEBALL.COM
The Captains return to Classic Park on Monday against the Lakewood BlueClaws, the Class A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. Monday marks the return of Buck Night where hot dogs, beer, and soda are only a dollar. Fans can also get $1 off any adult box seat ticket.
