Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

Delmarva's bats were silenced by the steady pitching staff of Lake County, as the Shorebirds were shut out for the first time this year, 5-0 in the series finale at Classic Park on Thursday night. The ‘Birds managed just three singles and a double on the night, and a solid effort by starter John Mariotti was wasted as he took the loss despite allowing just two runs in six innings.

Lake County got on the board with two in the third inning. Lucas Montero's RBI double plated Adam White to give the Captains a 1-0 edge, and Montero would make it 2-0 later in the frame, coming home on Karexon Sanchez grounder to first.

Jeff Moore relieved Mariotti in the seventh and was immediately greeted by a deep drive to right field by Captain's right fielder Matt Brown. The solo blast made it 3-0, a comfortable lead for the Lake County bullpen to protect in the late innings. The Captains scored two more times in the eighth off of Shorebird reliever Cliff Flagello.

Lake County improved to 5-2 on the year, winning the three game set 2-1, while the Birds fall to 2-4 and head home to Salisbury for a five game home stand beginning Friday night against Lakewood.
