Lancaster Stormers News Release

The lefty fired an eight-hit shutout, beating the York Revolution, 2-0, in front of 4,938 at Clipper Magazine Stadium, getting the Barnstormers within one victory of the Freedom Division's first half title.

Halama (2-2) allowed seven singles and a double, giving up two walks and striking out three. There was a steady stream of minor trouble, with the only 1-2-3 inning all night coming in the top of the ninth. Even with all of that, no Revolution runner advanced to third in the game. Halama finished up throwing 108 pitches, 72 for strikes. At different times, Tim McNab and Jonah Bayliss were loosening in the bullpen but Halama kept demonstrating that there was no need to make a move.

Lancaster's defense played a big role in the win. Scott Grimes was thrown out stealing after a leadoff single in the third. Tommy Everidge made a lunging catch of a one-out line drive off the bat of Chris Nowak with Vince Harrison already aboard in the sixth. Iggy Suarez and Gilberto Mejia turned double plays in both the seventh and eighth innings.

The offense, on the other hand, was able to scrape together just enough support, despite numerous opportunities to break the game open. Suarez, who is batting .765 in four games, doubled to right center leading off the third and moved to third on a single to right by Everidge. Fernando Seguignol produced the game's first run with a sacrifice fly to left.

Mejia reached on an infield single off the tip of the glove of John VanBenschoten (3-2) with one out in the fourth. He stole second and took third as J.C. Holt grounded out to first. Suarez came through again, this time with a bounder up the middle to plate Mejia for a 2-0 lead.

Nothing came of a leadoff double by Calderone in the sixth, nor of three straight one-out singles in the seventh.

Halama simply made sure those runs were not needed.

The Barnstormers and York play a day-night doubleheader on Saturday. Yunior Novoa (1-2) will pitch the noon opener against right-hander Corey Thurman (6-3). Ross Peeples (6-3) will make the start in the nightcap at 6:30 against another York right-hander, Matt DeSalvo (5-3). Both games will be aired on Fox Sports Radio, 1490, WLPA and streamed live on sportsjuice.com. The evening game will also be videostreamed on ibnsports.com.
