
Lee, Hagerstown too Much for Power Monday

(Hagerstown, MD- July 1, 2013)- The West Virginia Power fell 6-2 to the Hagerstown Suns Monday evening at Municipal Stadium. The Suns received a strong start from Nick Lee and backed him with five early runs of support to take the first game of this three game set against the Power.
The Suns took a 1-0 lead against Power starter John Kuchno in the bottom of the first inning. Hagerstown's first three batters reach to load the bases and Tony Renda scored on a fielder's choice. The Suns extended the lead in the home half of the sixth inning. Hagerstown sent eight batters to the plate, scoring four runs on five hits and one error for a 5-0 edge.
The Suns backed starter Nick Lee with an additional run of insurance in the seventh inning. Lee pitched seven shutout innings, allowing five hits while striking out nine and walking one.
The Power plated a pair of runs in the top of the eighth inning against reliever Travis Henke. Francisco Diaz walked, Walker Gourley singled, and Barrett Barnes walked to load the bases. After a lineout double play, josh Bell walked to reload the bases and Jordan Steranka singled to right to cut the deficit down to four at 6-2.
Kuchno (3-4) took the loss after giving up the first five runs and Lee (2-2) garnered the win. Shawn Pleffner paced the suns with four hits over five at bats. Bell led the Power with two hits while Steranka drove in West Virginia's only runs.
Tyler Glasnow will start on Tuesday against Pedro Encarnacion as West Virginia continues this road trip on Tuesday with a 7:05 pm start against Hagerstown. The Power will return to Appalachian Power Park on Thursday, July 4, to begin a four-game homestand against the Lexington Legends.
