Evansville Thunderbolts News Release
Evansville, Ind: The Thunderbolts and the Ice Bears met for the last time this regular season, with Evansville holding off to win 4-3. Both teams have clinched playoff berths, with Friday's goal of improving their playoff seeding and hopefully gain home ice for the opening round. In a back and forth contest, the Thunderbolts would lead three times, the third one being the one that lasted the distance.
Down 1-0 going into the second period, the Thunderbolts would strike twice only 15 seconds apart, at the 6:32 mark from Tyler Deresky on a net front scramble, assisted by Hunter Stewart and Dylan Clarke. The goal came on the power play while Tyler Minx served a slashing penalty for Knoxville, and the Thunderbolts would finish the game one-for-one on the power play. The second goal came at the 6:27 mark as Mark Petaccio was stopped on a rush to the net, but finding the rebound was Nick D'Avolio, giving the Bolts a 2-1 lead, also assisted by John Scorcia. The Ice Bears would tie the game up later in the period, but with 2:31 left to go, Stewart would give the Thunderbolts a 3-2 lead after a blocked shot led to an open net, and Schumacher and Lazorko would get the credited assists. Tied 3-3 in the third period, Nick Lazorko would shoot three times off the face-off, one blocked, second missed wide and the third on a set up from behind the net by Carter Shinkaruk and into the back of the net, assisted by Stewart as well at the 14:56 mark. The Thunderbolts would take a late penalty and had to endure a six-on-four power play with Zoltan Hetenyi pulled to the Knoxville bench, but the Bolts got the job done to win 4-3.
For Evansville, Stewart scored a goal and two assists, Lazorko scored a goal and assist, Deresky and D'Avolio finished with a goal each and Ian Sylves made 41 saves on 44 shots for the win. The Thunderbolts head to Knoxville for a rematch against the Ice Bears at 6:35 p.m. CST. You can tune in to the action on SPHL Live and the Thunderbolts Radio Network. The Bolts return home for the last time this regular season for Fan Appreciation Night on Friday, April 6 against the Fayetteville Marksmen. Face-off will be at 7:15 p.m. CST.
