SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- Matt Krahn made 34 saves, but it was Corey Banfield's pair of goals with less than three minutes remaining in the third period that lifted the Pensacola Ice Flyers (30-13-5) over the Mississippi RiverKings (25-18-3) in a 3-2 decision on Friday night.

Pensacola got on the scoreboard early in the first. With Sean Jones in the penalty box for tripping, John Dunbar found the back of the net just nine seconds into the power play to put the Ice Flyers on top 1-0. But the RiverKings came back ten seconds later. Todd Hosmer scored his league-leading 29th goal of the season on a wrist shot past the blocker of Ross MacKinnon to send the game tied at one into the first intermission.

After a scoreless second and start to the third, the Ice Flyers opened it up with just under three minutes remaining. Corey Banfield hammered a loose puck between the legs of Matt Krahn to put the Ice Flyers up 2-1. One minute and thirty seconds later, Banfield struck again on a two-on-one pass from John Dunbar to beat Krahn and give Pensacola a 3-1 lead. The RiverKings added a goal with just under three seconds remaining, but could not complete the comeback as they fell 3-2 to the Ice Flyers.

Matt Krahn (13-9-3) stopped 34 of 37 shots against in the loss. Ross MacKinnon (16-1-3) turned aside 29 of 31 shots in the win.

The RiverKings hit the ice tomorrow night in Columbus against the Cottonmouths at 6:30 p.m. from the Columbus Civic Center. Be sure to catch all the action tomorrow at Old Style BBQ, the Official Away Game Watch Party Headquarters of the RiverKings.
