
Columbus Downs Mississippi Surge in Overtime, 6-5

The Columbus Cottonmouths' Matt Gingera scored 3:09 into overtime to beat Mississippi Surge, 6-5 (OT).
Gingera had a great game for Columbus, netting five goals. Gingera got on the scoresheet 16:21 into the first period. He then added goals at 2:11 into the second, at 3:14 into the second, and at 5:01 into the third.
The Cottonmouths found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Columbus averages 3.3 goals per game. The Cottonmouths relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Gingera, Preston Shupe and Sam Bowles took 23 of the team's 44 shots.
Seth Ronsberg also scored for Columbus. In addition, Columbus received assists from Jordan Draper, who had two and Tom Maldonado, Kyle Johnson, Will Aide, and Curtis Martinu, who each chipped in one.
Mississippi Surge put 29 shots on net during the contest, more than the 19.4 it averages per game. Mississippi Surge bested its season scoring average. Mississippi Surge has scored at the pace of 2.7 goals per game during the current campaign.
Mississippi Surge was helped by Mark Thorburn, who registered two goals. Thorburn scored the first of his two goals at 14:13 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Columbus. Jordan Peddle assisted on the tally. Thorburn's next tally made the score 5-5 with 9:25 left in the third period. Mississippi Surge had gained a power play chance when Dan Bremner was whistled for hooking. Peddle picked up the assist. Mississippi Surge additionally got points from Peddle, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, Brett Vandehogen, who also had one goal and one assist, and Bill Baker, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Mississippi Surge were Brad Barber, Kyle Kudroch, Ian Boots, and Tom Craig, who contributed one a piece.
Martinu rejected 24 shots on goal for Columbus. The Cottonmouths incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Mathieu Dugas recorded 38 saves for Mississippi Surge. Mississippi Surge incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
