In the craziest game of the season the Calgary Vipers (27-20) rallied from a seventh inning 7-0 hole to defeat the Edmonton Capitals (27-18) 9-8 at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. Collecting only two hits in the first six innings the Vipers found themselves down seven but scored four runs in the seventh and another four in the eighth to tie the game before winning it in the ninth. Calgary's bats came to life in the final three frames for all nine runs on a total of 13 hits. With the win the Vipers move to a game and a half back in third place in the North Division.
Out of the bullpen Chris Bodishbaugh threw a scoreless inning leading to Dan Morari (2-0) who got the win after preserving the tie in the ninth inning with a bases load strikeout. Brandon Villafuerte (3-2) took the loss after allowing four hits in the ninth and not recording an out.
Edmonton scored first in the top of the second inning as Lou Santangelo singled, Tom Collaro walked, and Enrique Cruz hit a three run homer for a 3-0 lead.
The Capitals added to the lead in the sixth frame when Cruz walked and scored on a Daryl Arreola run batted in double for a 4-0 advantage.
Edmonton scored again in the seventh as Todd Linden reached on a fielding error, Brent Metheny doubled, and Nick Valdez launched a three run shot for a 7-0 lead.
Calgary got into the game in the bottom of the inning when Drew Miller and Louie Templeton singled followed by a Aaron Dunsmore two-run triple, Jeff Giacomini drove in one with a RBI groundout, while Bryan Burke, Jonny Kaplan, and Wilver Perez all collected base hits for a run and a 7-4 score.
In the eighth frame the Capitals got a run back for a 8-4 advantage as Jamie McGraw walked, Steve Brown reached on a fielding error, and McGraw scored on a second error.
The Vipers answered in the bottom of the eighth when Dunsmore singled, Burke walked, Justin Tellam singled to load the bases, Kaplan drove in two with a base hit, another run scored on two throwing errors, and Kaplan scored to tie the game at 8-8 on a passed ball.
Calgary walked off with the victory in the ninth as Rohan and Miller worked long at-bats for base hits, Templeton laid down a perfect bunt for a single to load the bases, and Calgarian Dunsmore came through with the game winning RBI single for a 9-8 final.
This series continues in Calgary at Foothills Stadium against the Edmonton Capitals on Weiner Wednesday July 13th at 6:30 which is also $5.00 Student Night and 90's Night while on Thursday July 14th at 6:30 the series concludes with Dan the One Man Band performing.
The Calgary Vipers will be hosting three Women's Pro Fastpitch games between the USAA Pride and the Tennessee Diamonds August 2nd, 3rd and 4th at 6:30 at Foothills Stadium. Tickets are $16 for the Lower Bowl and $12 for the Upper Bowl. Three game packages are also available for $45 and $33. In addition there will be two skill clinics August 2nd and 4th from 10am - 12pm. Cost is $99 for a Clinic and Lunch or $120 for the Clinic, Lunch and two Lower Bowl tickets. There will also be a Lunch Banquet August 3rd including an autograph session with both teams and a lower bowl ticket to the August 3rd game for $49.95 with keynote speaker Cheri Kempf, the Commissioner of the NPF and an ESPN analyst.
