Davenport Pitches WhiteWings Past Colts

HARLINGEN - Chase Davenport pitched seven and two-thirds shutout innings to lead the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings past the San Angelo Colts 4-0 on Wednesday at Harlingen Field.

In his longest outing by a WhiteWings (25-20) starter this season, Davenport (4-3) struck out seven while allowing three hits and three walks. He retired eight of the final nine batters he faced to snap the Colts' (28-15) six-game winning streak.

The WhiteWings got on the board against Chandler Barnard (6-2) in the bottom of the second as Gerardo Avila hit his sixth home run of the season in his first action since Friday to make it 2-0.

Francisco Santana led off the third with a walk, Antonio DeJesus followed with an RBI-triple and scored on a groundout by David Peralta to make it 4-0.

Barnard struck out seven while allowing five hits and two walks in seven innings.

The WhiteWings and Colts play games two and three of this four-game series with a double-header of seven-inning games on Thirsty Thursday at 6:05 p.m. Fans can purchase draft beers and cans of soda for $1 as well as bottles of beer and soda for $2 each. Right-handers Alexander Concepcion (4-3, 7.08) and Eddie Dennis Jr. (1-0, 5.55) are expected pitch for the WhiteWings. Gates open at 5:05.

The North American League (NAL) is one of the largest, in number of teams and geography, professional independent baseball leagues worldwide.
