
Thunder Beat Roadrunners, Snap Skid

EDINBURG, Texas-The McAllen Thunder used a six run sixth inning to snap their seven game losing streak beating the Edinburg Roadrunners 16-4 Wednesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
J.T. Zink (1-0) picked up the win after allowing four runs on eight hits and striking out three in seven innings pitched.
The Thunder (16-29) grabbed the early 4-0 after scoring two runs in the top of the first and top of the third against Edinburg starter Jorge Quintero (3-5).
The Roadrunners (21-26) got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Steven Wright hit an RBI fielder's choice scoring Wellington Dotel making it 4-1 McAllen.
After McAllen answered back with an RBI sacrifice fly by Yaibel Tamayo in the top of the fifth, Edinburg did the same with an RBI sacrifice fly by Game Memmert in the bottom of the fifth making the score 5-2 in favor of the Thunder.
In the top of the sixth, the Thunder sent 10 batters to the plate and scored six runs on five hits grabbing the 11-2 lead.
Steven Wright hit a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth that scored Dotel and R.J. Harris to score making it 11-4 McAllen.
McAllen extended their lead in the top of the seventh against the Roadrunners' bullpen. Luke Hetherington led off with a triple and then scored on an RBI double by D.J. Dixon. With two outs, Eric Eiland hit an RBI double that scored Dixon from third. Antoin Gray then followed with an RBI single that scored Eiland pushing their lead to 14-4.
The Thunder added two more runs in the top of the ninth and then Adrian Garza closed out the ball game after allowing a run on Stantrel Smith's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth giving McAllen the 16-5 victory.
The Roadrunners and Thunder will play the third game of their four-game series Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. James Giulietti (0-1) is expected to pitch for Edinburg with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
