Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY, AL - The Biscuits rallied for two in the seventh and two in the eighth and topped the Mississippi Braves by a final score of 6-3 in front of 4,619 Wednesday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

With one out in the seventh inning and the Biscuits trailing 3-2, Cody Strait and John Matulia drew back-to-back walks against Mississippi reliever Michael Broadway. Lee Hyde then came on to face Emeel Salem, who tripled to the gap in right center, putting the Biscuits in front 4-3. A Matt Fields two-run homer in the eighth inning added the insurance.

Each of Montgomery's first two runs came with two outs. In the second frame, Strait singled home Fields to make it 1-0, and in the fourth, Greg Sexton scored Fields with a single of his own.

A two-run single from Willie Cabrera in the sixth inning tied things up at two, and a solo homer from the Braves' Cody Johnson off Eddie Morlan in the seventh gave Mississippi their first lead of the evening at 3-2. Salem's triple would come one half-inning later.

Fields was 3-4, a triple short of the cycle to pace the Biscuits. Salem and Sexton each had two hits apiece. Eric Duncan was the only Brave to record multiple hits.

Biscuits starter Jeremy Hall faced the minimum through five, but allowed both runs in the sixth, leaving after 5.1 with five strikeouts and a no-decision. Mississippi starter Erik Cordier also took a no-decision, allowing two runs on five hits in his six innings of work.

Morlan (1-0) took the win, and Hyde (0-1) the loss. Paul Phillips pitched the final out of the eighth and the ninth to pick up his third save.

Montgomery, now 11-9 and alone in 2nd in the South Division, took four of five from the 10-10 Braves. RHP Rayner Oliveros throws for the Biscuits in game one against West Tenn against RHP Dan Cortes tomorrow at Pringles Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
