Mobile BayBears News Release
MOBILE, Ala, - Four home runs in the contest for the visiting West Tenn Diamond Jaxx including three by left fielder Carlos Peguero push the Jaxx past the BayBears, 10-3 on Wednesday afternoon at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Peguero wasted no time with his home run barrage as he took Barry Enright (0-1) deep to start the contest, giving West Tenn (10-10) an early 1-0 lead. Enright was sharp otherwise as he lasted 6.1 innings before turning it over to the bullpen which struggled.
Jake Wald smacked his first dinger of the year against Steven Hensley (2-1) in the third to even the score. It was the only run against Hensley, who lasted five innings and fanned eight. West Tenn put Hensley in line for the win when they manufactured a run in the fourth. Leury Bonilla led off with a double and came to the plate after a pair of groundouts.
Still a 2-1 ballgame into the seventh, Mike Wilson singled against Enright who forced Alex Liddi to fly out to right. Enright was then lifted in favor of Jeff Dietz. Dietz struck out the first man he faced, Dustin Ackley, but then he gave up a single to Luis Oliveros and a three-run homer to Joe Dunigan which kicked the West Tenn lead to four.
Peguero hammered his second homer against Dietz to commence the eighth inning. After a pair of bases on balls, Dietz was removed for Kyler Newby. Newby uncorked two wild pitches to bring home Bonilla and Johan Limonta, making it 8-1.
Run-scoring singles in the bottom of the eighth by Ricardo Sosa and Konrad Schmidt drew the BayBears a couple runs closer, but West Tenn got them both back in the ninth with a two-run blast by Peguero to turn the hat trick.
The BayBears continue their 10-game homestand on Thursday night when they welcome the Carolina Mudcats to town for a five-game series at 7:05. It's Thirsty Thursday ($1 Buds and Pepsi from 6 to 8 p.m.). For tickets, which start at $5 for kids and $7 for adults, call (251) 479-BEAR or log on to www.mobilebaybears.com.
