Mississippi Braves News Release

Montgomery, AL - In the final game of the series, Montgomery once again proved to be too much for the M-Braves by scoring 4 runs in their last two at bats and beating the M-Braves 6-3. The Biscuits take 4 of 5 and send the Braves back to the .500 mark for the first time in a week.

The Biscuits scored first with a two-out single from Matt Fields. Two batters later, Fields came in to score on a Cody Strait single to make the score 1-0. Montgomery scored again in a similar fashion in the 4th on a two-out double from Fields. Greg Sexton would single him in and make the score 2-0 Montgomery after the 4th.

Mississippi finally scored in the 6th inning as they sent seven batters to the plate. Orlando Mercado doubled and Travis Jones was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second. Alex Romero's single loaded the bases with one out and Willie Cabrera would drive in a pair with a single to tie the game.

Donell Linares then singled to load them up again, but Eric Duncan hit into a double play and the rally came to an end.

In the 7th, the M-Braves to their first lead in a game since Sunday when Cody Johnson hit a mammoth home run over the right field wall and over a chain link fence that encloses the ballpark. It was one of the deepest home runs anybody in Montgomery has ever seen hit at Riverwalk Stadium and the Braves led 3-2 at that point.

The lead was short-lived as Michael Broadway came on for starter Erik Cordier and walked two batters following a strikeout of Greg Sexton. The next batter was Emeel Salem and the Braves brought in Lee Hyde to face the lefty. Salem drilled a triple to score both runs and the Biscuits went back up 4-3.

The knockout blow came an inning later when once again, Matt Fields was at the plate. Fields hit a two run home run over the right field wall to make the score 6-3 and that would be the final. The decisions went into the bullpens as the starters Cordier and Hall received no decisions.

Tomorrow night, the M-Braves continue their 10-game road trip by traveling to Jacksonville, FL. The Braves and Suns play at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville at 6:05pm (CST). Mississippi will pitch LHP, Richard Sullivan (1-0; 4.67) while the Suns will use RHP, Elih Villanueva (1-1; 3.27).
