DES MOINES, IA - The 2011 NBA D-League Champion Iowa Energy used a furious rally to cut a 20 point 4th quarter deficit to two points late in the game, but ran out of gas as the Tulsa 66ers downed the Energy 98-91 Saturday night.
Tulsa stormed out to a 24-13 lead after one quarter, and increased the lead to 56-35 at halftime behind 16 points from guard Jerome Dyson and 10 from backcourt partner Dwight Buycks.
The Energy couldn't narrow the gap in the 3rd quarter, and appeared to be completely out of the game as they trailed 80-61 with 10:30 left in the game.
Just as fans were thinking the Energy would show no life, Andrew Drevo led a 10-0 Energy run to cut the lead to nine points. After a Dyson jump shot put Tulsa back up by 11 points, the Energy used a 8-0 run, capped by a Nick Covington 3-pointer to draw within three points at 86-83 with 4:32 remaining.
Moment later, with Iowa trailing 92-88 with 1:35 left, the Energy had a chance to get within two points as they had four shots at the basket, but couldn't find the bottom of the basket. On the ensuing possession, Tulsa's Brady Morningstar drilled a baseline 3-pointer to put the game out of reach.
Drevo led Iowa with 18 points, while Mike Efevberha and Nick Murphy added 17 points each. The loss drops Iowa to 15-6 on the season.
Morningstar led Tulsa with 23 points while Dyson added 19 points for the 66ers. The win improves Tulsa to 11-12 on the season.
Tulsa outrebounded Iowa 55-38 in the game.
Iowa hosts Springfield tomorrow at 5pm. Tickets are available at www.IowaNBA.com or at the arena box office.
