(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 10, 2015) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Camden Riversharks 5-4 on Monday night in the second game of a four-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.
Camden took a 2-0 lead in the third inning on RBI singles from Michael Rockett and Evan Crawford off of Ducks starter Bruce Kern. Two more runs in the fourth on Daniel Rockett's RBI double and Jose Gil's run-scoring single doubled the advantage to four.
Long Island closed the gap back to two in the bottom of the fourth on solo home runs by Dan Lyons and Sean Burroughs off of Riversharks starter Daniel Herrera. However, a sac fly to right in the fifth by Carlos Guzman pushed Camden's lead back up to three.
The Ducks answered back with two more runs in the seventh on Fehlandt Lentini's run-scoring groundout and a wild pitch by Dan Blewett. However, they could not even up the score.
Herrera (4-4) collected the win, tossing five innings, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out four. Kern (6-3) suffered the loss, yielding five runs on nine hits and a walk in five innings with four strikeouts. Matt Gorgen earned his 23rd save with a scoreless ninth inning.
Lentini led the Flock with three hits at the plate.
The Ducks and Riversharks continue their four-game set on Tuesday night. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). It's a Two-Fer Tuesday at the Duck Pond! Right-hander Ian Marshall toes the rubber for the Ducks against Riversharks righty Wes Torrez.
