Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
(Bridgeport, Conn. - August 10, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the acquisition of outfielder Bryan Sabatella from the Long Island Ducks in exchange for infielder Sean Burroughs.
"Bryan is a very skilled player that will be a constant force in our lineup and we can depend on every day," says Bluefish Manager Ricky VanAsselberg. "With this trade, we were dealing from a position of strength as we have a surplus of infielders and were in need of an impact outfielder for our postseason push. I also had the privilege of managing Bryan for four years from 2006-09 with Alexandria and Shreveport-Bossier, and look forward to this opportunity once again."
A Quinnipiac University alum, Sabatella joins the Bluefish during his third season in the Atlantic League. Prior to coming to the Park City, he appeared in 92 games for Long Island this season, compiling a .277 batting average with 19 extra-base hits, 60 runs scored, 36 RBI, and 26 stolen bases. Bryan was also named to the 2015 Atlantic League All-Star team. The slugger spent the 2014 campaign with the Kansas City T-Bones of the American Association, and in 97 games, posted a .307 batting average and .378 on-base percentage. In addition, he totaled three home runs, 45 RBI, 59 runs and a league-leading 40 stolen bases. The 30-year-old spent the previous three seasons with the New Jersey Jackals of the Can-Am League and combined for a .302 batting average, 21 homers, 132 RBI, 147 runs, 35 doubles and 83 stolen bases.
The outfielder began his career with the Seattle Mariners organization in 2005 and played two seasons at the Single-A level. He later played a total of 93 games with the Lancaster Barnstormers of the Atlantic League in 2008 and 2009. While there, he combined to bat .283 with five homers, 36 RBI, 51 runs, 14 doubles and 22 stolen bases. Sabatella was originally drafted by the Mariners in the ninth round of the 2005 amateur draft.
Burroughs appeared in 53 games for the Bluefish in 2015, recording a .321 batting average with seven extra-base hits, 19 runs scored and 27 RBI.
