Merritt Hurls 10th-Straight Quality Start in 3-0 Setback

SUGAR LAND, Texas - The Sugar Land Skeeters dropped their fifth-straight game as the offense produced just two hits in a 3-0 loss on the road to Somerset. The Skeeters move to 11-19 in the second half and 47-53 overall.

Starting pitcher Roy Merritt posted his 10th-straight quality start despite being tagged with the loss. The southpaw went 7.0 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits while fanning six. He moves to 5-4 on the season following the setback.

Somerset started the scoring in the home half of the second. Michael Burgess led off the inning with a single. Following two quick outs, Burgess stole second to advance into scoring position before a single to center from Mat Gamel broke the scoring seal.

The Patriots expanded the lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth. Nate Spears and Aharon Eggleston picked up consecutive singles to right field to start the inning. Burgess singled home a run and advanced to second on the throw to the plate. Adam Donachie lifted a sacrifice fly to left to cap the scoring at 3-0.

Daryle Ward and Jeff Dominguez paced the offense at the plate recording both of the hits for the Skeeters. Ward cracked the hit column for Sugar Land in the top of the fourth while Dominguez singled to lead off the ninth.
