
Late Missoula Rally Stuns Voyagers

Great Falls, MT - For the first time this season, the Voyagers lost a game when leading after eight innings as Missoula plated five runs in the ninth for a 6-5 series-opening victory Friday night at Centene Stadium. Great Falls (13-17) has followed a four-game winning streak with three straight losses. The Voyagers dropped to 6-5 at home, and are now 2-5 overall against the Osprey. Missoula (16-16) is within a game of first-place Idaho Falls in the Pioneer League North after snapping a five-game losing streak. The Osprey improved to 8-7 on the road this season, and are now 1-15 when trailing after eight innings.
Both teams scored first-inning runs. Cam Coursey and Axel Andueza both started the game for Missoula with line drive singles. A double play ball allowed a run to score. In the home half of the first, Great Falls tied the game on a solo home run to right by Luis Curbelo. It was Curbelo's fourth big fly of the season.
The Voyagers took a 4-1 lead with a three-run second. Sam Abbott led off the inning with a walk. Anderson Comas lined a single to left-center. With one out, Caberea Weaver doubled up the left field line to give Great Falls the lead. An RBI single to left by Kelvin Maldonado made it 3-1. And, Luis Curbelo used a sacrifice fly to left for the third run of the inning.
Lency Delgado stretched the Great Falls lead to 5-1 in the sixth with a leadoff, solo home run high and deep to right. It was Delgado's first homer of the season.
After seven shutout innings from the second through the eighth, the Voyagers bullpen yielded five runs on four hits in the top of the ninth. Missoula sent eight men to the plate in the frame. Jose Reyes led off with a walk. Cam Coursey singled up the middle on a ground ball that banged off the second base bag and into center. An infield single to the shortstop by Axel Andueza brought the first run home. The Osprey shaved the lead to 5-3 with a Tristen Carranza RBI single to left. Following a pitching change and a strikeout, Liover Peguero made amends for a three-error night in the field with a three-run home run deep to left for a 6-5 lead. It was Peguero's second dinger of the season. The Voyagers went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the ninth to end the game.
Missoula outhit Great Falls 9-to-8. Cam Coursey finished 3-for-4 with two runs. Axel Andueza and Liover Peguero both recorded two hits. Luis Curbelo posted two hits for the Voyagers with two RBIs and a run. Lency Delgado went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run.
Pedro Zorrilla picked up the win in relief for the Osprey. Zorrilla (2-1) worked one scoreless inning and gave up one hit with two strikeouts and one walk. Brayan Herrera took the loss in relief. Herrera pitched one inning and allowed one earned run on one hit (HR) with one strikeout. Mailon Arroyo earned his league-leading sixth save with two strikeouts in the ninth. The Voyagers bullpen retired 12 straight at one point. Kaleb Roper lasted three innings in relief and retired all nine batters faced with three strikeouts. Great Falls plays game two of three at home against Missoula Saturday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Centene Stadium. Gates open at 6.
