Akron RubberDucks News Release
Angel Martinez launched a late two-run home run to break up the shutout, but the Binghamton Rumble Ponies used 14 strikeouts and a four run fourth to down the Akron RubberDucks 5-2 on Tuesday night at Canal Park.
Turning Point
Already up 1-0 entering the fourth, the Rumble Ponies added on. A Wyatt Young two-run home run got the offense going for Binghamton stretching the lead to 3-0. After another run came home on a fielder's choice, Brandon McIlwain worked a bases loaded walk to make it 5-0 Rumble Ponies.
Mound Presence
Tommy Mace got the start for Akron and avoided major damage in most of his innings. The right-hander allowed a run in the first but worked a scoreless second and third despite allowing base hits. The big Binghamton fourth would end Mace's night after three and two thirds allowing the five runs while striking out three. Jordan Jones kept Binghamton's bats quiet tossing three and third hitless innings striking out two. Zach Hart tossed two scoreless innings striking out two.
Duck Tales
Akron broke up the no-hitter in the seventh on Petey Halpin's leadoff single. The RubberDucks broke up the shutout in the ninth when Jose Tena worked a leadoff walk before coming around to score on Martinez's two-run homer into the Cutwater Tiki Terrace to make it 5-2 Rumble Ponies.
