San Antonio Missions News Release

The San Antonio Missions opened up their three game series with the Tulsa Drillers with a thrilling 3-2 victory Sunday night at Wolff Stadium.

San Antonio entered the bottom of the ninth inning trailing 2-1 but third baseman Jedd Gyorko got the rally started with a lead-off double to right. With one out, Andy Parrino and Anthony Contreras drew back-to-back walks to load the bases, setting the stage for catcher Ali Solis. With the count at 1-1, Solis lined a fastball over the head of Tulsa center fielder Tim Wheeler to bring in Parrino and Contreras with the tying and go-ahead runs. It was the Missions 12th win this season in their final at bat.

Until the final inning, it appeared as if Blake Tekotte's first inning home run would be the only offense needed for a San Antonio win. For Tekotte it was his fifth homer in the last six games. San Antonio starter Rob Musgrave pitched five innings and limited the potent Drillers offense to just four hits while tying a season-high with six strikeouts.

Tulsa tallied their two runs in the top of the ninth off Missions closer Nick Vincent.

San Antonio improves to 11-5 in the second-half and 60-26 overall.

Game two of the series is tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. and it's also a WellMed Senior Sluggers Game. All seniors 65 and over or those eligible for Medicare, will receive a complimentary reserved seat ticket and drink (bottled water or soda).
