Hagerstown Suns News Release

HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Aldrem Corredor and Jake Noll broke a scoreless tie with RBIs in the bottom of the eighth before Angelo La Bruna saved the day with a diving play for the final out as the Suns (31-20) held on for a 3-1 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds (20-29) on Tuesday night at Municipal Stadium.

Hagerstown starter Tyler Watson and reliever Hayden Howard (Win, 3-0) combined to allow just three base hits and held the 'Birds hitless for the final seven innings.

Delmarva scored in the top of the ninth when right fielder Jake Ring came home from second on a throwing error. The Shorebirds placed the tying-run at second base with one out, but Nick Banks snagged a lineout in right field and La Bruna dove deep in the hole at shortstop before firing a strike to Corredor at first base for a dazzling game-ending groundout.

La Bruna led off the Hagerstown rally in the bottom of the eighth with a double to the wall in right field. Blake Perkins followed with his first sacrifice bunt of the season and Corredor plated La Bruna with an RBI single. Two batters later, Noll tallied his team-leading 28th RBI this season on a two-run single to left.

Hagerstown bats started slowly against Matthias Dietz, who tossed 6 2/3 shutout innings and held the Suns to just two base hits before Matt Trowbridge (Loss, 0-2) allowed three runs on three hits in just one inning of relief.

Noll led with two RBIs as the Suns managed five base hits; it was just the sixth time this year Hagerstown's league-leading offense tallied five hits or less.

The rubber match of this three-game series begins Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. when right-handed pitcher A.J. Bogucki (0-0, 4.15) makes his second start for the Suns against fellow righty Jhon Peluffo (3-1, 1.91) for Delmarva. Every Wednesday is Bark in the Park presented by Pet Valu at Hagerstown Municipal Stadium with dogs welcomed to attend the game alongside their ticket-holding humans.

The weeklong homestand continues on Thursday, June 1 at 7:05 p.m. when Tim Tebow and the Columbia Fireflies begin their four-game series in Hagerstown. For tickets, call 301-791-6266 or visit hagerstownsuns.com.
