Florence, Ky. - Trailing 10-3 in the ninth, the Florence Freedom, presented by Titan Mechanical Solutions, rallied for four runs, but fell to the Evansville Otters 10-7.

Florence (7-17) nearly matched its hit total from the first eight innings in the final frame, scoring four runs on six hits. Andre Mercurio led the inning off with a pinch-hit single back up the box. Four consecutive one-out hits followed later in the inning. Wenrich, Henderson, and Weaver all singled to load the bases. With the score now 10-4, Fraga ripped a double over the centerfielder's head. Wenrich and Henderson easily crossed home, but Weaver was thrown out trying to score from first. With two away, Taylor Oldham singled to bring home Fraga and make it a three-run game. The Otters (17-9) called upon Randy McCurry to get the final out and he did, forcing Austin Newell to ground out to the shortstop.

Evansville quickly made their presence felt by scoring six runs in the first two innings. The Otters sent nine to the plate in a four-run, four-hit, two-error opening frame.

The Freedom bounced back with a run in the second and another in the third. Richard Seigel led off the second with a single, moved around the base paths on a wild pitch and a fly out before scoring on Andrew Godbold's ground out. Henderson got things started with a double in the third, moved up on Weaver's single, and darted home on a sacrifice fly from Fraga.

Evansville moved ahead 10-2 with one run in the fifth and three in the sixth. Florence starter Stetson Nelson finished five innings in taking the loss and allowed seven runs (five earned), nine hits, and three walks, while striking out five. Jarrod Messex made his Freedom debut in the sixth, allowing three runs. The backend of the Freedom bullpen shutout the Otters (one hit, three walks) in the final three frames.

The Freedom got one back in the seventh as Evansville starter Peyton Baskette issued three consecutive one-out walks before a Josh Henderson sacrifice fly. Baskette took the win, finishing with 6 2/3 of three-run baseball and recording six strikeouts.

The score remained 10-3 until the Freedom rallied in the ninth.

Weaver led the Freedom with three hits, while Henderson (two runs, RBI) and Fraga (run, three RBIs) both had a double and a single. Florence's first five hits (in the first seven innings) came with nobody out, but their final eight (all in the final two frames) came with either one away or two men out.

Six Evansville hitters finished the game with multiple hits, including Josh Allen leading the way with three. Nik Balog, Julio Rodriguez, and Christopher Riopedre all finished with two hits and two RBIs.

The Freedom look to snap their four-game losing streak tomorrow when Jeremy Gooding (2-2, 4.34 ERA), takes the hill against Max Duval (3-0, 3.65 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. For more information on the jam-packed promotional schedule for the weekend, click here.
