Lancers Take Down the Stars in Last-Second Fashion

Omaha Lancers News Release

OMAHA, NE. - The Lancers were back in action tonight at Ralston Arena as they hosted their arch rivals, the Lincoln Stars. The Lancers were looking to extend their point streak as a team to six games, as they were 4-0-1 in their last five heading in to the matchup.

The first period ended in a 0-0 tie, with a nine shots a side as well. Although the first period was scoreless and tied in shots, the Lancers led in possession time and overall had more momentum. They were trying to set up some scoring chances, they just couldn't get any pucks by Lincoln goaltender, Kaidan Mbereko.

The second period was much like the first for the first 13 minutes. But that is when the Stars finally broke the ice.

Following a head contact penalty by Frank D'Ancona, the Lincoln power-play was able to get to work. It only took them 20 seconds to find the back of the net as Noah Laba was able to poke in a goal off a third opportunity. Putting Lincoln up 1-0 with 6:53 left in the seconds period.

It only took Omaha 41 seconds to tie it up, as Jared Wright pickpocketed Joey Pierce behind the attacking net and found Nolan Hayes on the backdoor to tie it up, 1-1. That goal gave Nolan Hayes his first goal of the season, and his first goal in a Lancers uniform.

The rest of the matchup resulted in fierce back-and-forth play and an abundance of phenomenal saves made by Mbereko and Kevin Pasche. But with just 15.5 seconds left in regulation, Omaha was on one final offensive push.

Hunter McDonald had the puck behind his own net and left it for Kennedy O'Connor. O'Connor then took it coast-to-coast, made a defenseman miss, and connected with Michael Cameron who flipped a beautiful backhand over Mbereko's glove side to score the game winner, and take the game in a 2-1 victory after closing out the final 15 seconds.

This win improves Omaha's record to 9-4-2-0 on the season, and drops Lincoln to 10-5-1-1.

The Lancers will be back in action Sunday, November 28th at Ralston Arena to take on the Sioux City Musketeers. Puck is set to drop at 4:05 P.M. and that game can be caught on MixLR and HockeyTV.
