Omaha Lancers News Release

The Omaha Lancers matched a season-high for goals in a single game as they dropped the Tri-City Storm 9-2 Tuesday evening at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. With the win, the Lancers improved to 20-4-1 on the year are now 3-0-1 against the Storm this season. Omaha remains atop both the West Division and USHL standings with 41 standings points.

The Lancers grabbed a 1-0 lead less than a minute into the contest when Daugherty won a goal line battle for his 9th goal of the season. Mathieu Brisson grabbed the only assist on the even strength marker notched just 50 seconds into the opening period. It was the 19th time in 25 games this year that the Lancers have scored the game's first goal. Omaha doubled its lead less than eight minutes later when Brisson threw a bulls-eye of a wrist shot past Tri-City goaltender Steven Bolton for his 4th goal of the season and second in as many games. Troy Power earned the only assist on the goal 8:17 into the period. The Lancers wasted little time adding to the lead as less than two minutes later Omaha took a 3-0 lead as Daugherty tipped another goal line shot past Bolton for his 2nd goal of the game and 10th of the season. Danny Mattson grabbed the only assist on the goal tallied 10:03 into the first and which ended the evening in net for Tri-City's Bolton after just two saves on five Omaha shots. Tri-City finally made its way onto the scoreboard 15:44 into the period when Cody Murphy spun in his 3rd goal of the season from Luke McManus.

The Lancers responded early in the 2nd period when Camden Wojtala redirected CJ Ludwig's shot from the right point for his 5th goal of the season. Brown earned the secondary assist as the Lancers recaptured their three-goal advantage. The Storm trimmed the deficit back to two though when Tucker Brockett's wrap-around from behind the Lancers netminder slipped past goaltender John Keeney. Kenny Brooks and Jaden Schwartz assisted on Brockett's 7th goal of the season. That's as close as the Storm would get, however, as Omaha bounced right back with a perfectly executed 2-on-1 between Colin Markison and Wojtala. The goal was Markison's 3rd of the season as Wojtala earned his 3rd multi-point game of the season.

Omaha ran away with the contest in the final frame thanks to four goals all thanks to the special teams. First, Matt White registered his 18th goal of the season and 2nd shorthanded tally of the season just 38 seconds into the period. The shorthanded marker was Omaha's 4th as a team this season. The Lancers then closed the contest with three straight power play tallies from Nick Oddo, White and Seth Ambroz. John Keeney earned his first victory in goal with the Lancers in his first career USHL start after turning aside 17 of Tri-City's 19 total shots.

The Lancers are back in action this Friday evening when they open up a weekend series with the Chicago Steel.
