Around the League

Storming at Home

...With two victories during the weekend, the Tri-City Storm earned five of a possible six points in the standings during their three-game homestand (2-0-1). The Storm claimed their first shootout win of the season knocking off the Omaha Lancers 4-3 on Friday. Five of the last eight games for the Storm have gone past regulation. Radoslav Illo scored a goal in regulation and had the deciding shootout goal on Friday before scoring the game-winner in the 5-3 victory over Des Moines on Saturday. He has tallied a goal in four straight games and leads the team with 13 goals this season. Team leading scorer Jaden Schwartz has seven points (1g, 6a) over his last four games and both Brett Mohler (2g, 3a) and Anthony DeCenzo (2g, 2a) are also on four-game point streaks. Maxwell Tardy had his five-game point streak snapped on Friday, but tallied a shootout goal before scoring two goals on Saturday. Steven Bolton made the start in goal during both victories and stopped a total of 50 shots.

Bonus Time on the Road

...The Sioux City Musketeers wrapped a six-game road swing with a pair of victories over East Division opponents. The team was 4-2-0 during that stretch with three of the victories coming past regulation. An overtime goal by Ryan Rashid on Friday led the team to a 3-2 win vs. Chicago. Stephan Vigier scored his team-leading 12th goal of the season in the victory and extended his point streak to eight games. Jeff Silengo scored his first two goals of the season, including the game-winner, during Saturday's 3-1 win against Green Bay. Rashid assisted on both goals while defenseman Danny Wurden also scored his first goal of the season. Goaltender Matt Skoff stopped a total of 62 shots during the weekend and has won four of his last five starts.

Team USA Earns Three

...The Under-17 squad of Team USA earned three of a possible four points in the standings over the weekend while picking up their second USHL win. Rocco Grimaldi scored the tying goal in the third period of Friday's 6-5 overtime loss to Youngstown and then scored the game-winning goal in Saturday's 4-3 win vs. the Phantoms. Grimaldi has recorded six points (3g, 3a) over his last three USHL games and currently is tied for the Team USA scoring lead with nine points this season. Defenseman Robbie Russo dished out three assists on Friday and scored a goal on Saturday to extend his point streak to three games (1g, 4a). Forward J.T. Miller tallied two first-period goals on Friday to go along with one assist and then made it a five-point weekend (2g, 3a) when he dished out two assists on Saturday. Goaltender Matt McNeely earned his first win of the season when he stopped 31 shots in Saturday's victory.

Two for Ice

...The Indiana Ice split the first two games of a five-game home stretch but have won three of their past four contests. Bryon Paulazzo scored two goals in Thursday's 3-0 shutout of Youngstown and is now tied for the team scoring lead (7g, 11a) while leading the club with a plus-16 rating. He also converted his shootout attempt in Saturday's 4-3 shootout win over Lincoln. Goaltender Cab Morris made 23 saves on Thursday to record his USHL best third shutout of the season. He has won seven of his last eight starts and has posted a 1.46 GAA during his 10 victories this season. Morris also stopped all four shootout attempts on Saturday and has turned away all eight attempts he has faced in the shootout this season.

Stampede Win 10th at Home

...The Sioux Falls Stampede picked up two wins during the week, including their 10th home win of the season, a 8-2 victory over Cedar Rapids on Friday. Jacob Johnstone, Josh Holmstrom, and Michael Voran all scored two goals in the win. Voran has points in six straight games, including multiple points in each of his last four contests. Matt Lindblad scored two goals in the 9-2 loss to Omaha on Saturday, his ninth multi-point game of the season and now has 26 points (7g, 19a) through 19 games, eclipsing his total of 25 points (5g, 20a) in 51 games last season. Goaltender Clay Witt turned away all 34 shots in the 5-0 shutout of Fargo on Wednesday.

Multi-Point Bucs

...Des Moines forward Connor Brickley netted two goals in the 6-5 win vs. Waterloo on Friday, his fourth multi-goal game of the year, while teammate T.J. Tynan collected three assists, his 10th multi-point game of the year. Ryan Walters has a goal in three straight games and points in six straight (4g, 6a). Defenseman Austin Handley scored a goal on Friday, his first game with Des Moines this season.

...Lincoln Stars forward Jon Puskar is riding a four-game goal streak and has five of his six goals this season over that span...Lincoln goaltender Matt Green recorded his second shutout when he made 26 saves in Friday's 1-0 win over Indiana. He has posted a 1.08 GAA in his four wins this season...Waterloo Black Hawks forward Bryce Ravndalen scored two shorthanded goals on Saturday vs. Cedar Rapids. It is the first time Waterloo has scored two shorthanded goals in a game since October 15th, 2004. Ravndalen has scored all four of his goals this season over his past five games...The Omaha Lancers scored a team season high nine goals in the victory vs. Sioux Falls on Saturday. Fourteen different skates registered a point including Matt White (2g, 1a), Ryan Daugherty (2g, 1a), and Camden Wojtala (1g, 2a) who all three-point nights. It was also the League-leading 15th victory of the season for goaltender Jeff Teglia...Cody Strang and Ben Paulides each scored their first goal of the season for the Youngstown Phantoms on Friday. Both goals were shorthanded...Chicago Steel forward Andrei Kuchin has scored three goals over his last two games and has points in six straight (4g, 4a).

Alumni News

...Playing in just his third NHL game, former Sioux Falls Stampede forward Dan Sexton scored his first two NHL goals to help the Anaheim Ducks to a 4-3 overtime win over the Dallas Stars on December 8th...Former Omaha Lancers forward Nathan Gerbe scored his first NHL goal while playing in his first game of the season for the Buffalo Sabres...Justin Mercier made his NHL debut on December 9th for the Colorado Avalanche. He spent the 2003-04 season in the USHL playing for the St. Louis Heartland Eagles.
