Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Shorthanded Success

Saturday, for the first time in over five years, the Waterloo Black Hawks scored two shorthanded goals in the same game. Bryce Ravndalen was responsible for both of them. The effort marked the first time Waterloo notched a pair of "shorties" in one game since Thomas Fortney and David Meckler did it to Green Bay in a 4-1 win on October 15, 2004. Ravndalen will now have an opportunity to become the first Black Hawk since Meckler that year to score three shorthanded goals in a season.

Getting Closer

Waterloo has played three consecutive games settled by one goal. In the Hawks 18 earlier games, only two had been that close. Four of five one-goal contests have been against Eastern Division opponents. The Black Hawks are 1-3-1 when a single tally is the difference.

Documenting Divjak

Patrick Divjak is having the best December of his USHL career. In four games, he has two goals and two assists. During the last two Decembers he spent in Sioux Falls, Divjak appeared in ten games combined with two points. He also has a streak of eight consecutive positive or even plus-minus games, tied with linemate Jamie Hill for the longest active streak of its kind on the team.

The Road Ahead

Saturday's 4-3 overtime loss in Cedar Rapids was the first of five consecutive road games for Waterloo, including three this week. This stretch was originally scheduled to be the longest time away from home this year, although a schedule change in early February means the Hawks will have similar span at that time.
