Omaha Lancers News Release
RALSTON, NE - In an effort to raise money and awareness in the fight against prostate and testicular cancer and mental health issues, the Omaha Lancers will officially partner with the Movember Foundation in 2013 and participate in "Movember" throughout the month of November to help "change the face of men's health," the team announced Wednesday.
"Movember is a fun, great way to help battle these deadly diseases and it's become a big campaign in the hockey world," said Lancers Head Coach and General Manager Brian Kaufman on Wednesday. "We think this is something our players and staff will have fun with and we hope to raise a lot of money for a terrific cause."
As part of the Movember Foundation's annual "Movember" campaign, a fundraising effort that has gained significant traction in the hockey community over the past five years, Lancers players, coaches and male staff members will grow mustaches during the month of November that Lancers fans and the general public can "sponsor" via individual, custom "Mo-Bro" web-pages on Movember.com.
Lancers supporters, fans, friends and family worldwide can donate to the Lancers' "Movember" campaign via credit card donations on each Lancer's individual page, stemming from the Lancers' main team page at http://www.moteam.co/omaha-lancers. Player, coach and staff pages can be found at http://www.mobro.co/firstnamelastnamelancers. For example, Kaufman's page can be viewed at: http://www.mobro.co/briankaufmanlancers.
Lancers fans are encouraged to check Omaha's "Mo-Team" page throughout the month for updates on their favorite player's progress mustache-wise and through their generosity, help make Omaha the top fundraising team in the USHL. As per Movember Foundation guidelines, 100 percent of all donations go directly to aid men's cancer and mental-illness patients, survivors, research and education. For more information, visit the Movember Foundation online at www.Movember.com.
The Lancers' 2013 "Movember" campaign will culminate with Omaha's home showdown vs. the Indiana Ice on November 23rd at Ralston Arena. Prior to the game, the first 2,000 fans through the doors will receive complimentary fake mustaches and the Lancers will tabulate their final "Movember" standings and award their 2013 "Lancers Mo-Bro" of the year award on the LancerVision video screens.
Fresh off a stretch in which the Lancers went 4-1-1 in six games spread over just 11 days, first-place Omaha continues a four-game homestand Friday at Ralston Arena with a 7:05 pm start vs. the Sioux City Musketeers on Military Appreciation Night, presented by the Nebraska Lottery. Then on Saturday, it's the first of eight meetings this season with the arch-rival Lincoln Stars, presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska. Full coverage of both weekend games begins with the "Valpak Pregame Show" at 6:50 pm on the Lancers' flagship station, "The Mighty" 1290 KOIL with Lancers broadcaster Tony Brown providing the play-by-play.
In 2013-14, the five-time Anderson Cup and seven-time Clark Cup Champion Omaha Lancers drop the puck on their 28th season in the USHL. Season ticket packages for the Lancers' second campaign at the state-of-the-art Ralston Arena are available now starting at just $12.50 per game!
