Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Joel L'Esperance scored twice, and Christian Horn recorded four points, as the Tri-City Storm outskated the Waterloo Black Hawks to a 4-2 final at the Viaero Event Center Wednesday.

Tri-City capitalized during the final seconds of a power play at 7:59 of the first period when Drew Mayer sent a shot from above the left wing circle to the top corner of the net. Quick passing led to the second Storm goal at 14:34; the Hawks couldn't take the puck from Horn at the line, he slipped it to Dan Labosky who made an extra pass, and L'Esperance flipped a shot under the crossbar from close range.

Horn built on the lead at 9:42 of the second period with a redirection from the top of the crease on a Garrett Cecere shot. However, the Hawks turned the middle frame into their favor during the closing minutes. During a power play at 16:07, Alec McCrea sent the puck to the top of the crease where it was deflected past Jacob Johansson. Less than 90 seconds later, Nick Olczyk's stick broke on a slap shot, sending the puck well wide, but it created a perfect opportunity off the end boards for Brandon Salerno, who scored into an open side.

The Storm snuffed out the Black Hawks hopes for a comeback at 11:34 of the third. L'Esperance was the beneficiary of another Labosky and Horn setup and put the puck into the net two-on-none against Mathias Israelsson. Johansson turned away 34 shots for the night, while Israelsson made 26 saves.

After three consecutive games away from home, the Black Hawks begin November in Party Town on Saturday. The Dubuque Fighting Saints visit for a Prairie Farms Cowbell Cup game at 7:05. The Hawks and 105.7 KOKZ will be encouraging Organ Donor Awareness throughout the evening. Tickets are on sale from waterlooblackhawks.com or by calling the Domino's Black Hawks Box Office at 319-291-7680.
