Lancers Fall To Riders' in Buc Bowl Opening Shootout

The Lancers were defeated Thursday by the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders 6-5 in a shoot-out at the Buc Bowl preseason tournament in Des Moines.

Jarmo Jokila scored two goals in the 3rd period to tie the game and send the contest into overtime. The Lancers would eventually fall in a shootout.

Cedar Rapids led 4-0 four minutes into the 2nd period before the Lancers scored three straight goals within a five minute timeframe to pull within one at 4-3. The RoughRiders would score one more goal before the end of the second period, giving them a 5-3 lead. Jokila's goals would even the contest in the final period; the tying goal coming with 12 seconds left in regulation. Neither team would score in overtime, and in the end, the Lancers couldn't capitalize in the shootout, while Cedar Rapids went 2-4.

The Lancers outshot the RoughRiders 35-31 and went 3-8 on the powerplay.

Jokila led the team with three points on two goals and one assist; Zac MacVoy tallied two points on two assists. Goalie Scott Gudmandson had 25 saves on the day.

The Lancers will face new USHL franchise Ohio Junior Blue Jackets today in game two of the Buc Bowl. The game gets underway at 3:00 pm.
