Lancers Drop Series with Force, 8-2

Fargo, ND - Omaha, and Fargo faced off for game two of the weekend series on Friday night. Fargo took the first win on Thursday, topping Omaha 7-1. Zach Driscoll started the game on Thursday but was replaced by Vinnie Purpura. Purpura received the go-ahead to start between the pipes on Friday night. Vinnie is ranked sixth among all goaltenders with a 2.26 GAA and a .919 SV%. Omaha came into the Friday night showdown with a record of 31-15-2-3, sitting at third place in the USHL West (67 PTS).

The first period was full of physical play and penalties, as the Lancers were called for 12 penalties (40 min) and the Force had 8 penalties (32 min). All of the goals in the first period came from power plays as Fargo capitalized first with a goal from Ben Meyers. Omaha answered back with Christian O'Neill who was called for the Omaha goal. Fargo then scored two more goals on the two other power plays. The Force held the 3-1 lead into the first intermission.

The penalties and goals continued in the second frame. Omaha totaled to 20 penalties (64 min) and Fargo with 15 penalties (54 min). The Force scored four unanswered goals. The Lancers pulled Purpura for Zach Driscoll. Driscoll let two quick goals in and was quickly replaced again by Purpura. Fargo lead 8-1 after the second period.

Omaha brought Driscoll back out for the third period. Travis Mitchell got the Lancers on the board on the power play. Omaha finished the game with 27 penalties (97 min) and Fargo with 21 penalties (85 min). Fargo won the game with a final score of 8-2. The Lancers totaled 23 shots on net, while the Force finished with 50 shots on net.

Purpura stopped 31 of 37 and Driscoll stopped 11 of 13.

Omaha is now 31-16-2-3 with 67 points and still sit at third place in the USHL Western Conference.
