Sioux City Musketeers News Release
Des Moines, IA - The Musketeers made the trip east to Des Moines Friday night to battle the Buccaneers but fell to 0-3 against the Bucs on the season after a 3-2 shootout loss.
The 1st period did not start out how the Musketeers had hoped with Des Moines jumping on top right away. Just 36 seconds into the game Nicolas Webik drove through the middle of the offensive zone and fired shot that beat Kraws to put Des Moines up 1-0 on the first shot of the game. Sioux City took control of the game from there and spent most of the period in the Bucs' zone. The Mills, Walker, Koepke line has been impressive since their inception and continued to look strong tonight. Dylan Mills made an excellent pass from the right side to a streaking Sammy Walker. Walker nearly skated past the net before making a backward pass to Koepke on the backdoor who buried it for his 23rd goal of the season. The Buccaneers would retake the lead just 21 seconds later off a shot by William MacKinnon. Sioux City would continue to control the period but could not find the equalizer and would head into the locker room trailing 2-1
The 2nd period was unusually quiet with no goals and only one penalty in the period. The Musketeers would get the opportunity on the powerplay but couldn't find the back of the net despite several excellent chances. Sioux City ended the period still trailing 2-1 with both teams deadlocked at 18 shots apiece.
Sioux City came out and continued to dominate the ice in the 3rd period, throwing shot after shot at Roman Durny, but he was up to the challenge. Sammy Walker looked like he snuck one under the pad of Durny on a breakaway, but the Des Moines Goaltender managed to keep the puck out to keep the Bucs up by one. The Musketeers would get the late equalizer off a laser shot from Dylan Mills with just 1:30 remaining in the game sending this one to OT.
Overtime saw both teams get quality breakaway chances, but both goaltenders stood their ground, sending this one to a shootout. Sampo Ranta and Micah Miller would both score in the shootout, but Des Moines would get the three goals they needed to take the shootout and take the victory by a final score of 3-2.
The Musketeers are back in action tomorrow night in Waterloo against the Western Conference-leading Black Hawks. Tune in to 620 KMNS, HockeyTV or head to Buffalo Wild Wings to catch the game live.
