Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MIDDLETON, WI- The Muskegon Lumberjacks scored three goals in the game's final 7:26, overcoming a two-goal deficit to beat the Madison Capitols 5-4 Friday at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena.
In a thrilling third frame, Madison scored three straight times to take a 4-2 lead with 12:45 to play. Then, Muskegon answered with three of their own, toppling the Caps 5-4.
Bobby Kaiser scored the game-winner with 3:25 to play, jamming home a rebound to finish off a captivating comeback.
Nolan Sullivan notched a multi-point game, and started the comeback with a shorthanded goal. Both Sullivan and Madison goalie Joseph Lamoreaux sprinted after a puck that was trickling into Madison territory, and Lamoreux saw it slip between his legs for Sullivan to stuff into the vacated net.
With the score 4-3, Muskegon would tie it at the five-minute mark when Anthony Del Gaizo gunned a rebound past Lamoreaux to knot things at four. Just more than a minute later, Kaiser would win it with his 8th of the year, four of which are game-winners.
Vincent de Mey enjoyed another strong game against his former team, scoring the first two goals for Muskegon, which put them ahead 2-0 early in the second.
Madison then went on their run, scoring four consecutive to take the 4-2 lead. The Capitols would fall short in the end, a bitter loss for an 8th-place team that has now fallen six points out of a playoff spot.
Muskegon, in the meantime, keeps pace with 2nd-place Youngstown, who knocked off Lincoln tonight. The Jacks remain four points back.
Muskegon netminder Keegan Karki made his 8th-straight start and stopped 24 of 28 shots to improve to 22-14-0.
Muskegon and Madison wrap up their weekend series tomorrow at 7:05pm EST. Broadcasts can be heard and seen on 92.5 Nash Icon and HockeyTV.com.
