Omaha Lancers News Release
SIOUX CITY, IA. - The Lancers hit the road once again tonight (12/31) to take on the Musketeers of Sioux City. The Lancers were looking to bounce back into the win column after falling by a score of 3-2 to the Sioux Falls Stampede earlier in the week.
The first period started even through the first five minutes, but after that the Musketeers took the momentum.
Putting up 14 first period shots allowed them to strike first.
Luke Antonacci found the back of the net for the fifth time this season ,14 minutes into the period to take the 1-0 lead. That one would come unassisted with a shot from the blue line.
It only took the Lancers five minutes to tie it up with a goal from Michael Cameron with just 1:55 left to play in the period. With Matt Basgall and Hunter McDonald picking up assists, it locked the score at one goal a side, which was taken into the locker room.
The second period brought more offensive momentum for the Lancers as they outshot the Musketeers 9-7 on the period, and more than doubled their original shot count through just 20 minutes.
After a failed power-play attempt by the Lancers, they found the puck in the offensive zone once again. Ryan Gillespie was just able to scoot the puck over to Matt Romer, who fed Luke Strickland on the far side for a beautiful one-timer slapshot that blew by Sioux City goaltender, Alex Tracy's glove. Putting the Lancers up 2-1 in just over 13 minutes left in the second period.
The Lancers had a few more scoring chances but took the 2-1 lead into the second intermission.
The third period brought a lot of excitement for both sides, but more for Omaha.
Ben Steeves corralled the puck in the attacking zone nine minutes into the third and scored on a one-timer while on the power-play to knot the game at two goals apiece.
After some back-and-forth play, Frank D'Ancona found Ryan Gillespie in the attacking zone with just over six minutes left to play. Gillespie then fed Ethan Elias who was all alone in the slot area, who managed to beat Tracy glove side to retake the lead, 3-2. Which ended up being the game-winner in this one.
Kevin Pasche played another stellar game, making 31 saves on 33 shots and playing a prime role in winning tonight's matchup.
The Lancers will be back in action on January 1st, 2022 to take on the Lincoln Stars. Puck is set to drop at 7:05 P.M. at the Ice Box, as the Lancers look to take down their arch rivals for the second time this season. That game can be caught on Mixlr and HockeyTV.
