Madison Capitols News Release
The Madison Capitols fall in tonight's New Years Eve bout with the Green Bay Gamblers, 5-2. Madison enters 2022 with a record of 13-13-2.
Nick DeSantis got things started tonight for the Capitols when he cleaned up a rebound out front and blasted it home just 7:03 into tonight's contest to give Caps a 1-0 lead. Luke Mittelstadt was credited with his 15th assist of the season. Madison and Green Bay would head into the intermission tied at one apiece.
Trailing 2-1 late in the second period, Captain Casey Severo battled in front of the Green Bay net and was able to backhand home his 6th goal of the season with 4:05 remaining in the 2nd period. Reid Pabich and Jake Dunlap tallied the helpers on the equalizing goal.
Madison got back starting netminder Simon Latkoczy tonight a few games early with the cancellation of the 2022 World Junior Championship. Latkoczy stopped 36 of the 40 shots he faced in tonight's contest.
The Caps will look to get back to their winning ways on Sunday afternoon when they battle the Chicago Steel in the weekend finale at Fox Valley Ice Arena. The two Eastern Conference foes will drop the puck at 3:05 p.m.
