Lancaster's Late Long Ball Languishes Nuts in 5-3 Loss

Lancaster, CA. - Brooks Marlow ripped a go-ahead two-run homer in the eighth sending the Modesto Nuts to a 5-3 loss against the Lancaster JetHawks on Thursday night at The Hangar.

Dom Nunez gave the Nuts (17-24; 43-68) their first lead when he launched a two-run homer in the fourth. Jamie Ritchie tied the game for the JetHawks (26-14; 61-49) in the next half inning with a RBI single.

Neither team scored until the eighth when the Nuts had Marc Magliaro (L, 0-1) on the mound. Bobby Boyd smacked a triple with one out in the eighth. Marlow followed and smacked the game-winning homer over the right field wall.

Ralph Garza (W, 1-0) worked three scoreless innings out of the 'pen with seven strikeouts and no walks for the JetHawks.

Jacob Dorris (S, 10/10) walked two to bring the go-ahead run to the plate, but the Nuts could not come up with the late hit and stranded both baserunners while going 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position throughout the night.

Ryan Castellani started the game and worked six innings allowing just three runs while striking out five with only one walk.

Omar Carrizales homered in the third. Nunez finished a triple shy of the cycle while going 3-for-4.
