August 5, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release
BAKERSFIELD, CA - Bakersfield Blaze pitcher Zack Littell was named the Cal League Player of the Month today for his effort in July.
Littell's performance in July was nothing short of brilliant as the right-hander boasted a 4-0 record, 0.84 ERA, 25 strikeouts, 3 walks, and opponents were hitting a pedestrian .184 against him. The 20-year old Mariners prospect was stellar in 5 starts for the Blaze, tossing 32.0 innings and anchoring a pitching staff that is currently tops in the league.
The Mebane, North Carolina native capped off his thrilling month on July 27th when he threw 8 innings of shutout ball, striking out 6, and surrendering 5 hits as the Blaze won at San Jose 2-1.
In 6 starts this year with the Blaze, Littell owns a 5-0 record, 1.66 ERA, with 29 strikeouts, 6 walks, as opponents are only generating a .196 batting average when facing him.
The rising star was promoted on July 4th to the Blaze after pitching in the Midwest League with the Class-A Clinton LumberKings.
Littell was an 11th round selection of the Seattle Mariners in 2013 out of Eastern Alamance (NC) High School. He began his professional career with Seattle's Rookie team, the AZL Mariners that same year.
