Lancaster Stormers News Release

After a tough 13-inning marathon loss to visiting Southern Maryland, a quick win from the Barnstormers was that much more gratifying. Lancaster shut out the visiting Blue Crabs, 3-0, in front of 5,586 at Clipper Magazine Stadium on Saturday evening, keeping the Barnstormers in a first place tie with the York Revolution. Saturday's win was heavily influenced by the presence of starting pitcher Dan Osterbrock and third baseman Wilson Batista. Batista, who was not in the lineup the night before, put a jolt into the Barnstormers. The switch hitting third baseman chalked up four hits in four at-bats, including two homeruns, good for the entire offense in the game. The first long ball came when Batista blasted the first pitch he saw into the picnic deck railings to give the home team a 1-0 lead in the first. He connected again following Yusuke Kajimoto's trip to first on a hit by pitch. Batista slammed a 1-0 pitch over the picnic tents for a 3-0 Lancaster lead. Batista also chipped in singles in the fifth and seventh innings.

The run support from Batista was all Osterbrock (5-2) would need. The southpaw fired 7.2 shutout innings and yielded only four hits. He tallied eight punchouts, four of them looking, without yielding a walk. The lefty threw 104 pitches, 70 for strikes. He only allowed two runners to advance past first base, and allowed only one extra-base hit. The lone double came off the bat of former Barnstormer Tony Delmonico.

Left-hander Ross Peeples relieved Osterbrock with two outs and two men on in the bottom of the eighth to face leadoff man Jermaine Mitchell. Peeples recorded the strikeout to preserve the shutout and set the table for Jason Urquidez in the ninth. Urquidez locked down his 10th save of the year, giving up one hit and notching one strikeout in the ninth inning.

Right-hander Gaby Hernandez (2-4) earned the loss despite a quality start, tossing seven innings and giving up three runs on eight hits. He issued one walk and struck out six. He also hit one batter. Newcomer Gabe Jacobo tallied his first hit in red and black, singling off of Hernandez in the third inning. Jacobo was one for four in his Barnstormers debut. Andrew Clark and Cole Garner also collected singles for the home team.

The Barnstormers conclude this homestand with Southern Maryland with an afternoon game, a 1:00 start featuring Ian Marshall (3-5) for the Blue Crabs and Shunsuke Watanabe (2-1) for Lancaster.
