Lancaster Stormers News Release

The Lancaster Barnstormers, batting over .300 and scoring six runs per game in the second half, were cooled off for the second straight night, dropping a 2-1, 10-inning decision to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs at Regency Furniture Stadium.

Former Barnstormer Adam Godwin drew a walk from Jonah Bayliss (2-1) to lead off the tenth inning. Brandon Pinckney laid down the expected, garden variety sacrifice bunt toward the mound. Bayliss threw to first, but Gilberto Mejia missed the throw, allowing Godwin to sprint to third. Pinckney was cut down at second, giving Bayliss one out.

Lancaster opted to pitch to Brian Barton. Bayliss worked ahead in the count, 1-2, but Barton lifted a fly ball deep enough to right center to easily score the speedy Godwin and give the Blue Crabs their eighth win in their last nine games.

The Barnstormers took an early 1-0 lead off spot starter Jason Waddell on a long blast to left center by Fernando Seguignol to start the second. After that, the Barnstormers bats went into the deep freeze. The club managed only four singles in the final nine innings against a quartet of Blue Crabs pitchers. The only marginal threat came in the eighth when Aaron Herr singled to the hole at shortstop leading off against Eduardo Morlan, and Matt Tupman laced a two-out single into center.

Southern Maryland tied the game off J.D. Durbin in the fourth. Travis Garcia grounded a single into left leading off the inning. Casey Benjamin hit a bounder to Everidge, but a momentary bobble cost Lancaster a force play, taking the out at first instead. Durbin struck out Rich Giannotti for the second out, but Ben Harrison nailed a singled into right to score the run. Tanner Townsend followed with a bloop single to right that chased Harrison to third before Christian Lopez was retired to end the inning.

The Blue Crabs nearly took the lead in the seventh. Townsend hammered a one-out triple, Southern Maryland's only extra base hit, to the alley in right center with one out. Lopez laid down a squeeze bunt, but Durbin pounced on it and made a perfect backhand feed to Tupman to get the out at the plate. Lopez was gunned down stealing to close the inning.

Steve Palazzolo (9-2) worked the ninth and tenth innings for Southern Maryland to earn the win.

The series will continue Sunday evening at 5:05 with John Halama (5-4) making the start against Nick Green (7-5). It will be aired on Fox Sports Radio, 1490, WLPA and streamed live on sportsjuice.com.
