Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - Jonathan Singleton continued his impressive start to his BlueClaws career Friday night, belting a three-run homer in the fifth to propel Lakewood to an 8-1 win.
Singleton is now hitting .400 in his nine games with the Claws (23-19), with three home runs, nine RBIs, and seven walks. He went 2-for-4 Friday with the three-run blast, a double, and two runs scored.
While the 18-year old Singleton flourished at the plate, 19-year old starter Jarred Cosart (5-1) dominated the West Virginia (19-22) lineup. Cosart struck out nine in seven innings, allowing just three hits and one run. Cosart retired the last thirteen batters he faced in his longest start as a BlueClaw.
Lakewood took a 1-0 lead in the second on a Sebastian Valle RBI single. After the Power tied the game in the top of the third, the BlueClaws scored another run on a Jiwan James sacrifice fly to make it 2-1.
Lakewood wouldn't look back, scoring twice more in the fourth inning leading up to Singleton's blast in the fifth. James drove in another run on an eighth inning double to wrap up the scoring.
With the win the BlueClaws remain three games back of first place Hickory in the Northern Division of the SAL.
Jason Erickson (3-3) took the loss in his first start of the season, getting tagged for four runs (three earned) and eight hits in three innings.
With Nick Hernandez on the disabled list, Siulman Lebron (0-1, 5.61) will make the start for Lakewood tomorrow. He will take on Victor Black (0-0, 6.75) at 4:05 pm.
