Daytona Beach, FL- The Lakeland Flying Tigers used two ninth inning home runs en route to a 7-2 victory over the Daytona Tortugas Saturday night at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. Lakeland has taken the first three games of the series, as Daytona has now dropped four straight.
Lakeland scored the final seven runs of the game, pushing across the go-ahead run on a leadoff ninth inning home run from Zach Shepherd off RHP Jake Ehret. For Shepher, it was his second home run of the series, his only two since last August. Lakeland would then put the game out of reach with a Christin Stewart grand slam later in the frame off RHP Jimmy Herget.
Lakeland initially tied up the game with a pair of runs in the seventh off RHP Nick Howard. With two outs, Grayson Greiner doubled to left and Wade Hinkle singled to right to each drive in a run.
Daytona's lone runs came in the fourth against RHP Jeff Thompson, who allowed just one total hit in all other innings combined. Aristides Aquino and Taylor Sparks each had RBI doubles, separated by one batter, giving Daytona the fleeting 2-0 advantage.
LHP Ismael Guillon did not factor in the decision in his second start since 2014. He tossed four no-hit innings, while striking out six. Ehret (1-2) took the loss, allowing four runs in 1 2/3 innings after striking out the first four batters he faced. RHP Sade Smith (1-0) earned the win in relief, tossing two scoreless frames.
Daytona will look to avoid the sweep Sunday evening at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. RHP Tyler Mahle (3-2, 2.72) gets the ball for Daytona against RHP Endrys Briceno (0-2, 6.06). First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 PM with the Chili's pre-game show beginning at 5:20 PM on AM 1230 and AM 1490 WSBB.
